Fire Protection Ltd (FPL) won the Passive Fire Safety System Equipment Installer of the Year at the Fire Industry Awards on May 12. This prestigious accolade is testament to the continued levels of quality and excellence displayed by the fire rated duct specialist, which won the same award in 2007.

The judges were impressed by the quality of Fire Protection's fire resistant duct system, Flamebar BW11, which is certified to LPS1531 (approved passive installer) and accredited by FIRAS, plus the company's ongoing commitment to staff training and development. Flamebar BW11 complies with all applicable product standards and is currently undergoing testing and certification to meet the pending construction products directive, BSEN12101, required by European legislation.

The evening was hosted by television sports presenter, Steve Rider, at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, attended by over 600 of the industry's most important and influential figureheads.

The panel also included the Association of Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP), the widely recognised and respected organisation with a longstanding and driven commitment to maintain the highest standards in passive fire protection. The ASFP's guide to Fire Resistant Ductwork, known as the Blue Book is included within Approved Document B (Section B3, clause 10.9) providing designers and contractors with practical guidance on the use of fire resistant ductwork. The Blue Book also provides details of companies whose systems satisfy the ASFP's most stringent criteria for the supply and installation of fire resistant ductwork.

FPL's products have been specified for such prestigious buildings as Terminal 5, Swiss Re's 'Gherkin' in the City of London, the Houses of Parliament, and Hong Kong & Shanghai Bank's world headquarters at Canary Wharf.
