Work started on site in May 2019 on this new Extra Care Accommodation development providing 55 bedroom units in Dovehouse Street, Chelsea.
The Main Contractor Multiplex appointed ESG, Romford as the M&E Contractor in June 2019, who then contracted Imperial Ductwork Contracting Ltd, Sidcup to install the mechanical ducting on this project. This included £360k of various fire rated ducting requirements which Imperial contracted out to Fire Protection Ltd.
"The challenges that we have experienced on this project have been mainly around builders works opening where fire rated ducting needs to pass through" commented Martyn Seeley Contracts Manager Fire Protection Ltd.
"The delay in receiving detailed drawings for this aspect of the project have pushed back the expected completion of the installation to April 2020. The manufacturing of the various ducting systems is ready to go and we can make these at short notice, but we need to get them right. In conjunction with Imperial we are holding back making these until detailed drawings are approved. Once these details are approved it will be a straight forward installation".
The EI 120 minute Kitchen & Dishwasher Extract Ducting installed on this project is required to meet BS EN 1366 part 1 as detailed by the building regulations, ensuring that each of the 55 units has fire safe ducting extracting to the roof. In addition there is also a EI120 minute Bin Store Extract, Generator Extract and Smoke Extract to BS EN 2366 Part 8 and being installed to meet the building regulation requirements.
This Extra Care development has fire safe ducting throughout, which will allow the elderly residents adequate time to escape should a fire break out.
