Swiss RE - Fire rated ductwork, from basement to bar
Fire rated Flamebar BW11 ductwork, manufactured and installed by Fire Protection has been fitted from the basement to the bar throughout Swiss Re's impressive new 180 metre tall building at 30 St Mary Axe in the heart of the City of London.
The ductwork contract, which was carried out by FPL in three stages, included the installation of the company's fire rated Flamebar BW11 to the building's basement area, its shell and core, as well as its restaurant and bar at the top of the building. Fire rated ductwork will provide smoke extract facilities, as well as lift shaft pressurisation and ventilation.
The striking new forty-storey structure has been designed to provide 46,450 square metres of office accommodation and 1,400 square metres of retail facilities, within the 1.4-acre site. The building, designed by Foster and Partners and described as 'environmentally progressive', also boasts spectacular 360-degree views of London from its glass-domed bar and restaurant.
Fire Protection installed the Flamebar BW11 system on behalf of General Contractor Skanska Rashley Weatherfoil Limited. Flamebar BW11 fire rated ductwork system has been performance tested under furnace conditions, meets all relevant British Standards and is entirely suitable for situations where up to four hours fire protection is required.
Fire Protection Ltd operates its own laboratory and fire test facilities. In addition to fire rated ductwork systems, the company has recently developed its portfolio of products to include ceiling fire barriers and firestopping materials.
