The Print Works - staircase pressurisation systems for entertainment complex

At the Print Works, Manchester's premier entertainment complex, Fire Protection installed smoke extract and staircase pressurisation systems to ensure safe means of escape in the event of a fire.

Previously home to a major national newspaper printer, the Print Works is now a buzzing, state-of-the-art entertainment complex located in the heart of Manchester's city centre. With a range of restaurants, bars and clubs alongside a cinema and gym, the Print Works cost £150 million to renovate and covers some 350,000 square feet of floor space.

Fire Protection was chosen to manufacture, install and insulate smoke extract and staircase pressurisation systems for the entertainment complex. Pressurisation is a method of restricting the penetration of smoke into certain critical areas of a building by ensuring the air within those areas is at a higher pressure than in adjacent areas. Fire Protection's specialist experience means it has a comprehensive knowledge of staircase pressurisation systems.

As with all Fire Protection Flamebar BW11 products, the smoke extract and staircase pressurisation systems were stringently tested to meet the requirement for stability, integrity and insulation, maintaining the safety of occupants in the Print Works.
